Education Majors

English Teaching Majors

Students interested in majoring in English Teaching must apply and be admitted to the first certification course (ScEd 276). Before applying, students need to complete one course from english 251 or 252 and two courses from English 291, 292, or 293. Applications are available in 4168 JFSB from Dixie Archibald, the English Education secretary, in the Humanities Advisement Center in 1175 JFSB, or online. Applications are due September 15 to be admitted to certification courses for Winter semester and January 15 to be admitted to certification courses for Fall semester. Students can declare the English Teaching major in 1175 JSB and should do so before submitting the application; however, they must be admitted to the certification program in order to complete the major.

Spanish Teaching Majors

Students interested in the Spanish Teaching major should enroll in ScEd 276R, the Foreign Language section. While enrolled in the course, submit an application to the Spanish department and contact Professor Blair Bateman, 3157 JFSB, 422-1727. Once ScEd 276R is completed and the student has been admitted to the Spanish Teaching major by the Spanish Department, students may declare the teaching major in the Humanities Advisement Center in 1175 JFSB.

French, German, and Latin Teaching Majors

Students interested in a major in French, German, or Latin Teaching should enroll in ScEd 276R, the Foreign Language section. While enrolled in ScEd 276, students should contact the faculty advisor for the teaching major. The advisors are: French Teaching -- Professor Robert Erickson, 3115 JFSB, 422-5193; German Teaching -- Professor Randall Lund, 3103 JFSB, 422-4961; or Latin Teaching -- Professor Cecilia Peek, 3035 JFSB, 422-4564. Upon completion of ScEd 276R, students may declare the teaching major in the Humanities Advisement Center in 1175 JFSB.
