We have created this web site to provide support for families where one or both parents are speaking a foreign language (not their native language) to their children in an effort to raise them bilingually. We also wish to provide encouragement for those parents who are debating whether or not to do so. We feel that it is possible, for example, to raise bilingual French/English speaking children even if you and your spouse are native-English speakers and reside in the United States. Those parents who are more fluent in a foreign language will, of course, be able to help their children acquire a higher level of proficiency than those parents who are less fluent. However, even parents who are less proficient in a foreign language can familiarize their children with that language and even help them acquire that language to a certain degree. We hope to help all such families by providing references, resources, answers to frequently asked questions as well as support from families in similar situations. Good luck in your bilingual child-rearing endeavors. Please fill out our questionnaire so that we can learn more about your bilingual family.
