Undergraduate Minors

CHum courses are primarily designed to complement and supplement the students' major programs. But for students that want to pursue a formal academic minor, the CHum Program offers two intersecting minors. The "Humanities Computing Minor" emphasizes a broader application of computers to teaching, publishing and research in humanities disciplines, while the "Language and Computers Minor" has a more technical, computational linguistics orientation.

Minor Humanities Computing (15 hours)

1. Complete one course from the following:
   • CHum 281 -- Computers and Teaching 1
   • CHum 284 -- Computers and Internet Publishing
2. Select 9 credit hours from the following:
   • (CHum 281 or CHum 284)
   • CHum 381 -- Computers and Teaching 2
   • CHum 384 -- Encoding and Markup
   • CHum 283 -- Computers and Print Publishing
   • CHum 385 -- Computer Research Tools and Methods
   • CHum 280 -- Basic Humanities Computing Skills
   • CHum 287 -- Programming Humanities Applications 1
   • CHum 387 -- Programming Humanities Applications 2
   • LING 480 -- Problems in Translation
   • CHum 490R [1] -- Humanities Computing Seminar
3. Complete minimum 3 credit hours of one of the following:
   • Chum 489R -- Humanities Computing Project
   • Chum 484R -- Publishing Workshop
