Biography:

I grew up in Montpelier, Idaho. I'm married to the former Janet Knouse of Cokeville, Wyoming. We have  six children and, as of March 2013, ten grandchildren with three on the way. I did my undergraduate work at BYU and then worked at several different jobs, trying to settle on a career. Along the way I, with my growing family, spent 18 months in Japan and almost ten years on active duty in the U.S. Army, some of it in Germany. I studied history of science at  the graduate level at Harvard University (night school while working full time as a soldier), then left active duty to study history and philosophy of science at Indiana University.  I began teaching at BYU-Hawai in 1991i, received my Ph.D. in 1994, and in 2000 took a job in the Philosophy Department at BYU.

Degrees: BS, Brigham Young U., 1973
Graduate Work, Harvard U., 1987
MA, Indiana U., 1990
PhD, Indiana U., 1994

Interests:

My primary interest is philosophy of science. Specifically, motion, space, time, and light. I also read quite a bit of history. When I am on campus I almost always spend some time in the faculty work-out facility. Janet and I enjoy traveling and seeing new places.
