Biography:
Dane Spencer specializes in British Victorian Literature, with secondary interests in British Romanticism and specific interests in class, femininity, and masculinity. His current research includes examining gender roles as portrayed in literature, art, and legal practices of the Victorian Era. Other academic interests include: juvenile literature, modern fantasy fiction, and nineteenth-century art. Professor Spencer’s teaching focuses on the idea that the class, collectively, is a thriving entity, in which each participant adds to the knowledge and understanding of the group. His lectures are lively, participatory, and witty. Outside of academia, Dane is anxiously engaged in NCAA basketball, especially during the month of March and any day his beloved Cougars take the court, disc-golf (since his athletic skills—see football, basketball—are eroding rapidly), and all things chocolate. He attempts—rarely with any success—to be as smart as his wife, Melissa, and as quick and nimble as his children, Cade and Corinne.
