Biography: Kristen Chandler received her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Utah, where she also did her undergraduate work. In addition to teaching at BYU for six years she has been an instructor at UVSC and Portland Community College. She writes young adult fiction and adult non-fiction. She has four children and is involved in many outdoor activities like marathoning, hiking, fly fishing and wasting time in any kind of water.

Her course requires critical thinking and writing. In addition to five essays, students are also required to complete a "journey project," in which they attempt to excel at something they enjoy and then chronicle their discoveries. This is a class where we roll up our sleeves and write, and where we have the best time possible doing it.
