How can you determine if students are literate in their native language?
Back to Section IV
The quickest but least accurate way is to have someone ask them directly or ask a close associate. A second way is to test the students. This option requires the teacher to identify resource persons who speak the native language of the students. These persons should be asked to have the students read and answer the questions in their native language. The literacy assessment instrument as found in Appendix A can be used to measure native literacy skills.
