A native of Texas, Penny Bird has spent most of her adult life teaching composition and literature courses at BYU. Since 1992, she has served as director of BYU's Writing Center, training hundreds of tutors and dramatically increasing the Center's profile on campus.

Penny's areas of expertise include peer tutoring, composition pedagogy, and literary analysis. For the past several years, she has also taught religion courses, particularly the Doctrine and Covenants.
