She received her ABD from Washington University, St. Louis, her BA and MA from Brigham Young University in Comparative Literature, and her second MA from Penn State in Comparative Literature--Literary theory and aesthetics emphasis.

She has also taught elementary Japanese at PSU, Wash University, and Middlebury, and Comp Lit. at Washington University of St. Louis.

Research interests include literary translation and translation theory; aesthetics; autobiographical writing; women's writing in Meiji Japan; Christianity and literature in Japan; Japanese language pedagogy
