On May 13, 1939, Ted Lyon shared his birthday with a twin brother, Dr. Joseph Lyon. The two attended public schools in Salt Lake County. Ted finally got through the University of Utah in 1963 and left with a B.A. He later exited UCLA in 1967, clutching an insecure Ph.D., while driving a U-Haul truck to Oklahoma. After a couple of years trying his best to teach, at the University of Oklahoma, he flitted to Madison, Wisconsin, where for three more years he again tried his best to teach (or to teach his best). Ted joined the BYU faculty in 1972. Since that time he has skipped through Mexico and a few other countries, has had foisted on him the directorship of Latin American Studies here, for a few years, and has published some. He’s a bit involved with a couple of journals and even functioned in the Honors Program, but of course has now been released. He and his wife, Cheryl, have five children.
