MARK STRAND was appointed Poet Laureate of the United States in 1990. He is the author of over thirty books of poetry, prose, translations and criticism. His most recent book is Almost Invisible, a collection of prose poems. Strand's many honors and awards include the MacArthur Fellowship, the Pulitzer Prize, the Bollingen Prize, and the Gold Medal for Poetry from the American Academy of Arts & Letters. He currently teaches at Columbia University, and lives in Madrid, Spain.
