English Reading SeriesXEvent: English Reading Series Date: Nov 06, 2009 Time: 12:00 Place: HBLL Auditorium Description: Tim Wynne-Jones studied architecture at the University of Waterloo in Canada and then graduated with a BFA, which was followed by an MFA from York University. He wrote his first novel Odd’s End the summer he graduated, and it won the Seal First Novel Award with a $50,000 prize. He has published over thirty books, including picture books, short stories, young adult novels, and general fiction. His many awards include an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America, the Canadian Governor General’s Literary Award, and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award. He is a faculty member at Vermont College, teaching in the MFA Program in Writing for Children and Young Adults. He lives with his wife Amanda on seventy-six acres of rough and tumble land near Perth, Ontario, Canada. Tim Wynne-Jones will also deliver the Nan Osmond Grass Lecture Thursday, November 5, in the “Education in Zion” lecture hall, lower level, JFSB. His poetry collection, The Clearing, won the Walt McDonald Award and was published in 2007. Of this collection, John Hollander said, “Philip White’s poems are possessed of a clarity and a control of feeling–they never edge on sentimentality–that manifest acquired wisdom and achieved skill.” White’s poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The New Republic, Slate, Poetry, Sewanee Review, Agni, New England Review, Southern Review, Antioch Review, and elsewhere. He teaches Shakespeare and Renaissance literature at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. | 14 |
