BYU students and faculty gather to celebrate the Chinese new year with food, games and fun.
PROVO, Utah (Jan. 24, 2017)—Chinese New Year is a yearly tradition for the BYU Chinese Flagship Program and Chinese Club. This holiday celebrates the turn of the traditional lunar Chinese calendar into the next year. A common tradition for families who celebrate the holiday all over the world includes the use of decorative red envelopes to give gifts of cash as luck for the new year. BYU students and faculty celebrated by eating Chinese food, listening to music in Mandarin and playing various different Chinese games. Part of the celebration included a photo area where students could pose in straw hats in front of a Great Wall of China background.
