Holiday Choirs: Welsh Choir

PROVO, Utah (Dec. 8, 2016)—Every year, the BYU Welsh Choir welcomes the Christmas season with a spectacular vocal performance. Wales plays a valuable role in the history of the Church, as many Latter-day Saints have Welsh ancestry. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir was also founded by Welsh saints in 1847, just one month after Mormon pioneers first settled in the Salt Lake Valley. Music is a vital part of Welsh culture, and the Welsh Choir seeks to uphold that aspect of Welsh heritage on campus – especially during the Christmas season.

The choir sang traditional Welsh carols, as well as a Welsh coral piece written by Susan Evans McCloud, a popular LDS song and hymnwriter, who was also in attendance.
