International Cinema Fall 2014

Spanish and Portuguese International Cinema selections for this Fall are as follows:

Sept 23-27: Valentín (Spanish)

          "Set in 1967 Buenos Aires, eight-year-old Valentín lives alone with his poor widowed paternal grandmother. Amidst his boyhood dreams to become an astronaut and work with NASA, Valentín looks for ways to solve problems in his family that surround him, problems which he finds only himself capable of fixing." (2002, 86 min.)

Nov 18-22: Favela Rising (Portuguese)

          "This documentary focuses on the work of Anderson Sá, a former drug trafficker who emerges from the slums of Rio to establish and lead the grassroots, non-violent cultural movement known as Afro-Reggae. The group  aims at using music and education to better the lives of youth and prevent further growth of gangs." (2005, 80 min.)
