My aim as a teacher is to empower students through writing. I do this with a recursive combination of theory and implementation. Principle-based instruction blended with practical application is the methodology I favor. Class discussions, small group activities, peer review, and reflective writing are some of the techniques I employ. Ultimately, I seek to help each student apply the power of writing, not only at university, but in all areas of life. Victorian Short Fiction, with a special focus on the detective fiction of L.T. Meade. I’m also interested in how British themes inform American short fiction. Teaching is my second career. After being a stay-at-home mom for 20 years, I returned to academia and earned my credentials to teach at the university level. My unconventional academic journey gives me a unique perspective. As a life-long learner, I truly recognize the value of education and enjoy mentoring students. Sharing my passion for learning is a calling to me. Being able to do this at BYU is an honor and privilege.Teaching Experience
